Weather | Watch out for the D5 highway! It is snowing heavily, the road workers are helpless. Hell in Pec too, watch Blesk’s radar

“Watch out currently in the Pilsen region. Especially on the D5 highway, especially in the Rozvadovo area, but also in Stříbrsk, Plzeňsk and Rokycansk, and later also in Domažlick and elsewhere. Intense snow showers are advancing from Bavaria and will continue to advance in the next few hours, in which several cm of snow can fall locally in a short period of time,” meteorologists warn, stating that the showers are oriented parallel to the D5 highway. It increases the snowfall even more.

In addition, a strong wind is temporarily blowing. “Road crews do what they can in these situations, but they are largely powerless. It is not realistic to clear large sections of highway or road quickly with such heavy snowfall.” warns the ČHMÚ.

The Pilsen region is not the only one struggling with snowfall. Firefighters have also been working in the Hradec Králové region since morning. “Especially in mountainous areas, we are dealing with a number of traffic accidents today. The worst situation is in Pec pod Sněžkou. We pull vehicles out of ditches or rescue them from rivers. In 10 accidents, 2 people were injured. Be careful on your travels!’ called the local firefighters.

Wind and snowdrifts also complicated the passability of the roads in Vysočina today. Police dealt with 16 accidents in the afternoon, in which three people were slightly injured, said police spokeswoman Dana Čírtková.

“There was a layer of snow on the roads, especially of the lower classes, in the entire Vysočina region, and snow tongues were formed in places due to the gusty wind. “The drivers skidded, which they couldn’t handle, and then they either drove the vehicle off the road themselves, or collided with another vehicle,” said Čírtková.

It is currently valid in the Czech Republic warning against the formation of snow tonguesespecially in the mountains and the Highlands. It should end on Saturday at 22:00.
