Temperatures in Šumava rose to 20 degrees Celsius this afternoon. In some places they even surpassed it. The high values in the mountains were caused by the inversion. They measured the most in the Kašperské Hory in Klatovsk, where it was 21 degrees. It meant surpassing the 1967 record by almost three degrees Celsius. This was told to ČTK by František Vavruška from the České Budějovice branch of the Hydrometeorological Institute.

“Next week will be with a touch of winter. The inversion will disappear and cold air will arrive from the northwest. Dispersal conditions will improve. “Snowflakes may appear not only on the mountains, but also at lower elevations, although we are not expecting large amounts of precipitation for the time being,” reports the ČHMÚ.

Today’s values were slightly higher than Thursday’s temperatures, which were also affected by a strong inversion in the mountains.

At the Churáňov station in Šumava, they measured 19.7 degrees Celsius today. The previous record from 2010 was 17.6 degrees. Kvilda Perla recorded 19.3 degrees Celsius today, which exceeded the highest value of 14.5 degrees from 2002. And a record was also set in the Šumava Mountains in the Novohradské hory today. So far, the value of 14.3 degrees Celsius from 2020 has been valid. Today in the Šumava Mountains it was 20.7 degrees.

“This is a significant breaking of records. It will still be warm at the weekend, but it should cool down from Monday. It could also snow in the next week, even in the lower elevations,” Vavruška said.

Take care, warn meteorologists

“Those who have not yet ‘switched’ to winter tires, we recommend doing so in the next few days. Other winter phenomena, such as ice, may also appear. A cold front will show up during Monday. “The models already agree that the colder air intrusion episode will not be entirely short, but will probably extend over the whole of next week, although especially the weather next weekend is still not completely certain,” the meteorologists continue.

“Daytime temperatures will not exceed 10°C and nights may be freezing. If it clears up, local temperatures may drop to -5°C or below. As for snowfall, the first could appear on the cold front on Monday, when the snowfall line from the northwest will drop from approx. 1,100 m to 400-500 m. Later in the evening on Monday, ice may also form,” reports the ČHMÚ.

“Further rainfall could then come towards the end of the working week and the weekend, but that is yet to be determined, there is too much uncertainty here for now.” meteorologists added.
