“The super cell, which was originally built SW of Prague, is currently located in Olomouc. During its trajectory, it produces hail of around 3 cm and has so far traveled a distance of over 200 km. Nature sometimes prepares a surprise…,” said the metrologists from ČHMÚ. “Continue to pay particular attention to hail and wind gusts,” they warned.
“Today will bring again very strong storms. During the early afternoon, up to very strong thunderstorms will begin to form in the west and southwest of Bohemia, and during the afternoon and evening they will progress to the east,” according to the meteorologists.
“Thunderstorms will be locally accompanied by torrential rainfall totaling around 50 mm, in repeated thunderstorms up to 80 mm may fall, wind gusts and hail around 90 km/h will also appear. In the next few days, the storms will decrease and the beginning of next week will bring sunny weather. Temperatures will remain downright summery throughout the next week,” they add
Numerous trips by firefighters
Firefighters were also busy due to storms. “From 6 p.m. to midnight on Thursday, the operational and information center of the fire department in Pardubice records 150 events related to the storm. Pardubice and Vysokomytsko were probably the most ‘washed away’ by water. In the underpass on November 17, we helped the crew of the car with which she was stuck in the water lagoon,” warns the HZS of the Pardubice Region.
“Damage after strong wind and storm, but we are recording it in the entire Pardubice region. Firefighters from Vysoké Mýt in Janovičky had to literally cut their way to a vehicle overwhelmed by fallen trees,” the firefighters continue.
“After arriving at the scene of the incident, the driver went towards us. He was wounded in the hand. He was treated by paramedics who were following us. The vehicle was completely obscured by several trees. The driver got out of the car alone through the back door behind the driver. We also removed the trees with the help of an excavator and a lizard,” said fire chief Miloslav Havlík from the Vysoké Mýto station.
