Weather | Snow covered the Czech Republic: Complications in transport! Crashes and delayed public transport

According to the ČHMÚ, more than seven centimeters of snow will fall in more than 12 hours. “More intense snowfall with a total of 2 to 3 cm per hour may also occur temporarily,” meteorologists said. Their warning is valid from 15:00 today until 09:00 Tuesday for Vysočina, the South Moravian and Zlín regions and parts of the Central Bohemian, South Bohemian, Pardubice and Olomouc regions.

“Complications are expected when walking, in transport, supplies, etc. In the case of wet snow, there is damage to trees and forest cover, power lines and power outages,” informed the ČHMÚ. Drivers should follow traffic reports, have winter gear and chains when traveling in the mountains. In the mountains, it is also necessary to follow the instructions of the Mountain Service.

The snow was causing problems already in the morning

Several trucks and cars collided on the D8 in Mělnick this morning. One person suffered minor injuries. In the Central Bohemia region, road workers had almost 100 spreaders in the field, but there were problems, for example, in public transport. Dozens of connections of the Prague Integrated Transport were delayed or buses did not serve the stops.

Drivers also had to be careful in the Ústí Region, in its western part there was wet snow on the roads in places. The road between Chomutov and the border with Germany was closed because of this, and trucks were stuck on the road. A glacier could form in Lounsk. On road 226 near Podbořany at 07:30 a heavy truck crashed in a place with an iceberg, shuttle traffic was in one lane. Due to the glacier, trucks were standing in a line on the I/27 road also near Podbořany.

Increased number of traffic accidents recorded by the police also in the Pilsen region in connection with the worsening weather conditions. According to her, there was a layer of snow on the roads in places. The accident happened in the morning, for example, near Líšťany in northern Pilsen, a truck also crashed near Čížkov in southern Pilsen.

Several centimeters of snow fell in the Karlovy Vary region at night. Slippery roads caused problems mainly on steep hills. The accidents happened in the morning in and around Karlovy Vary, in Počerny or in the switchbacks on the I/6 road between Karlovy Vary and Prague. Two trucks crashed on a steep hill, another truck was stuck on the hill and couldn’t get out. There are single-lane ruts on the D6 highway between Karlovy Vary and Cheb and on most roads at higher elevations.

In some places in the Czech Republic, tongues of snow also formed. Road officials warned about them, for example, in the Opava region or in southern Bohemia. In addition, the roads in the Zlín region could freeze. In the morning, it was the case of road I/35 in Valašské Meziříčí in the Vsetín region, road II/493 near Petrůvka in the Zlín region and road II/150 in Komárno in the Kroměříž region. Road officials warned of ice on the I/69 road between Jasenna in the Zlín region and Liptál in the Vsetín region, which in this section runs under Syrákov hill.
