For today, meteorologists expect temperatures mostly from zero to four degrees Celsius, in the southwestern half Bohemia and Silesia occasionally up to six degrees, the ČHMÚ reported on the X social network. At first, it can be partly cloudy, especially in the mountains. Rainfall advancing from the west may freeze in places, and it may even snow in the northeastern half of the Czech Republic. “During freezing precipitation, ice will form in places, especially in Bohemia and the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. In the evening, ice may form in places,” meteorologists said.
The ice caused problems for drivers mainly in the west of Bohemia. The Karlovy Vary region reports dozens of accidents. The police and traffic officers are calling for the drivere to be very careful. Pedestrians should also be careful, as ice can also form on sidewalks. Near Kynšperk nad Ohří, the D6 highway in the direction of Cheb is closed due to an accident.
“Since this morning, i.e. since 07:30, we have been recording mainly in Sokolovsk and Chebsko approximately 20 traffic accidents. In most cases, the main cause is mainly icy roads. TO traffic accidents occurred on the highway near Kynšperk, in Cheb, in Luby, in Chodov, in Františkovy Lázně or in Mariánské Lázně. We haven’t registered any traffic accidents in Karlovy Vary so far,” regional police spokesman Jakub Kopřiva said around 8:00 a.m.
The freezing rain in the Tachovsk region has caused several accidents since this morning, with no injuries so far. Police officers, firefighters and road workers appeal to drivers to be careful. The glacier advances from the west of the Pilsen region and heads further inland. It is reported throughout district and on the D5 highway. Road workers have all cars in the field. The situation should improve after noon, when a slight warming and rain should come, ČTK found out.
“Due to the ice on the roads, we dealt with up to ten accidents. So far, we have no reports of any injured persons,” said police spokeswoman Barbora Šmaterová. According to her, drivers should drive with increased caution and if they don’t have to, then they shouldn’t leave at all or postpone the journey.
According to information from ČTK, for example, a bus with children drove into a ditch and two stationary trucks blocked the highway near Rozvadovo.
