Meteorologists warned of freezing conditions that could complicate traffic throughout the country at night and on Friday morning. In shaded areas or where freezing fog persists, an almost invisible layer of ice can last all day on roads. “There is a risk of driving into a thin, slippery layer of ice. Frozen communications can persist subsequently even during the day, in shaded locations even in the case of air temperatures above freezing, or in places where freezing fog persists throughout the day. Similar conditions can probably be expected in the following days as well,” informed the ČHMÚ.

On Friday, the first working day after the Christmas holidays, it will be clear to partly clear, cloudy and foggy in places in Bohemia and Silesia. Mists and drizzle can be freezing. The lowest night temperatures will drop to minus four degrees, in Moravia and Silesia when it clears up all night to seven degrees below zero. During the day, the thermometer will show three to seven degrees Celsius, with all-day fog or low cloud cover it will be around zero.

On Saturday, it may be clear to partly cloudy in the mountains and in places even in lower areas. At night, temperatures can drop to minus five degrees, during the day they will be from minus three to plus one degree, in sunny weather they rise to three degrees above zero. Sunday will also be accompanied by fog or freezing drizzle in some places, especially in the west and north-west of Bohemia, it may exceptionally snow or rain with snow. Maximum temperatures will not exceed five degrees above zero, with prolonged fog they will continue to stay around the freezing point.

Over the next week it is supposed to warm up significantly and at the beginning of the new year the maximums may approach ten degrees Celsius.
