In Šišma, the dam of the pond above the village broke, mayor Marek Krystek told ČTK. The water hit both municipal and private property, there was almost a meter of water in a number of houses, the mayors said. Nobody was injured.
“It was a flash flood, the stream overflowed in an instant, the damage is in the order of millions of crowns, but we are glad that no lives were lost. The entire center of the village is devastated by water. We have a torn dam of the pond above the village of Šišma, which is now the main crisis situation for us. We did not have to provide replacement housing, in the end we managed it so that we did not have to evacuate the residents. However, it is still in play due to the damaged dam above the village. We are waiting for the arrival of experts who will tell us whether it is necessary,” Šišma mayor Marek Krystek told ČTK today.
The Olomouc Region was once again hit by strong storms. In Přerovsk, water flooded streets and houses in several villages. Firefighters evacuated residents from their homes there.

The water also caused great damage in neighboring Kladníky. “Fortunately, there is no damage to life or health, but there is damage to property – both to municipal and private property. We are just mapping them, we mapped it at night with flashlights. There is mud, water or a mixture of topsoil and water everywhere, in some properties there was up to 70 centimeters in the interiors,” Kladník Mayor David Štěpánek told ČTK today.
“We are a village located in a hollow, due to the fact that it has been raining for three weeks now, the soil has been so saturated that everything has rolled from the surrounding fields. In normal conditions, our stream is a meter wide and barely flows, now it was the width of Bečva, so roughly 25 meters. He took everything along the way, there was a washing machine near the apartment building, and even cars in Šišma. A disaster, this wasn’t even in 1997,” said Štěpánek.
In Hradčany, the mayor received a warning from the Olomouc operation center about a tidal wave from Šišma five minutes before its arrival, at 19:30. “Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to react to it, I just had to announce to the citizens to secure their homes as much as possible and turn off the electricity. I received information from Přerov that bags were coming to us, but they arrived when we were washed away. It was a meter of water, it moved our car by seven meters at the office, it ground paving stones, we have two flats in an apartment building and two houses completely heated. The water also got into the basements of the houses. The infrastructure and equipment of the village is completely destroyed,” Hradčany Mayor Marie Galetová told ČTK today. “However, no one had to be evacuated, no one was hurt,” added the mayor.
According to fire department spokesperson Lucie Balážová, the tidal wave also affected the villages of Domaželice, Hlinsko, Nové Dvory and Oldřichov. Firefighters rescued ten people from endangered family homes or inaccessible places. “In the village of Šišma, the wave was so strong that even cars floated, some ended up in the riverbed,” the spokeswoman said. Firefighters pumped water from 70 properties overnight.
