“The strongest storms are currently located in Olomouc. They proceed slowly in an eastern direction. Pay particular attention to intense precipitation (we are recording totals of around 15 mm/10 min) and also wind gusts,” the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) said around 3 p.m.

“Please note that thunderstorms are and will still be localized and will not occur everywhere within the warning area,” meteorologists added.

According to the firefighters of the Olomouc region, the most affected places are Olomouc-Litovelsko, Prostějov and Jeseník less so. “In some places, the firemen deployed floating pumps to alleviate the consequences of the heavy rain, in most incidents the water subsided naturally after a while. In thunderstorms, the strong accompanying strong wind also caused trees to fall.” Olomouc firefighters stated that there are dozens of professional and volunteer firefighters in the field. They also started the preventive preparation of sandbags.

A storm warning is in effect from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM today. It includes the entire Pardubice region, part of Vysočina and Hradec Králové region, as well as all of Silesia and Moravia with the exception of Znojmo. Storms will move eastward and weaken quickly in the evening, according to meteorologists.

Showers on Thursday

The Kubova Huť station recorded the strongest storm on Thursday. “It measured 144 mm for the whole storm episode, at the time of the highest intensity it was 109 mm per hour,” the meteorologists said. The second highest amount was in Boubín, namely 79 millimeters. Due to the torrential rain, firefighters had to intervene in Vimperek and nearby villages, for example in Kubova Huti they were removing mud from the track.

Highs will be higher over the weekend, about 28 degrees. While on Saturday the sky should be partly clear and there will only be isolated showers, on Sunday it will be cloudy and showers are expected by meteorologists in most areas. It will clear up on Monday, and from Tuesday the temperatures should be tropical again.
