Due to the track covered in mud, passengers traveled on replacement buses. They ran between Chocní and Týniště nad Orlicí and between Chocní and Čermná nad Orlicí. The storm also caused damage elsewhere in the region. “Flooded gardens and water approaching houses, flooded cellars were first reported from Orlickousteck. An underpass flooded in Krasíkov, and a blocked bridge caused road flooding in Hylváty. In total, firefighters went to 17 incidents. Other cases were reported from Svitavy, where the wind that accompanied the bad weather broke trees.” said fire brigade spokesman Miroslav Polák.
A strong storm swept through Ústí nad Orlicí, heavy rain and wind accompanied by hail. Gusts of water flooded Královéhradecká and Moravská streets in the city center. Firefighters had to pump out the water, the city said on its website.
In the neighboring Hradec Králové region, firefighters were clearing mud and stones from the road near Chlumec nad Cidlinou on Sunday evening. In Dětenice in the Jičín region and in Lhoty near Potštejn in the Rychnovsk region, they removed trees that had fallen onto the roads.
“From 2pm on Sunday until this morning, we recorded seven trips to downed trees and pumped water three times,” Veronika Švorcová Mocová, spokeswoman for the central Bohemian fire department, told ČTK. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute reported on Facebook on Sunday around 19:00 about an intense storm in Nymburk, during which four-centimeter hailstones were also recorded. Firefighters, however, do not record events directly related to hail.
