While the thermometer is already around 32 degrees this Tuesday afternoon in Bordeaux, it should climb even higher Wednesday June 11, with an episode of hot weather expected throughout the Southwest. In Aquitaine, the Dordogne, the Gironde and the Lot-et-Garonne will be particularly concerned, with yellow vigilance peak of heat decreed by Météo-France, from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Temperatures will indeed be able to go up locally up to 36 degrees in these three departments, as in Bordeaux, Périgueux or Bergerac. In Dordogne, the mercury will also make the big gap, since the temperatures will sometimes be very soft in the morning. In the Vézère valley, the thermal amplitude will for example be 24 degrees (12 in the morning, 36 in the afternoon).
In the Landes, in Gironde or Lot-et-Garonne, the thermal differences will be less important, with around twenty degrees scheduled in the morning, but the mercury will still exceed 30 degrees in the afternoon. An episode of hot weather, the most important of the week, which will be “Remarkable by its intensity” According to Météo France, since we will be “A good dozen degrees” above seasonal norms. But temperature records, 38-41 degrees, will not be beaten.
These strong temperatures will be accompanied by a “Very sunny day”even if thunderstorms will invite itself at the end of the day all over Aquitaine. They will arrive “By the Pyrenees and the south of the Landes, from the middle of the afternoon”and should move to the Gironde and the Lot-et-Garonne “At the end of the afternoon or early evening”before finishing their race over the Dordogne, “During the evening or at the start of the night”.
The yellow vigilance Thunderstorms was therefore declared by Météo-France, from Wednesday at the end of Wednesday afternoon, for the five departments of Aquitaine (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Landes, Lot-et-Garonne, Gironde, Dordogne).
We will have a large electrical activity, with gusts of locally important wind, 60 to 90 km/h from the Gironde in the Basque Country, as well as strong showers, with a small risk of hail.
These thunderstorms will still have the merit of lowering temperatures for Thursday, June 12, from 5 to 6 degrees. But the mercury will remain above seasonal normal, with 28 to 29 degrees expected on average on Aquitaine.
