Tramway T3 in Marseille, Zenibus, Neomma metro… the RTM is betting big on 2026

It will be “a year of great success,” promises Catherine Pila. Starting this week, the transport map is partially redesigned in the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolis, to open up neighborhoods and make life easier for commuters.

North and South connected

This week, two major projects are becoming reality:

  • The Zenibus extends: The High Level of Service Bus (BHNS) is now expanding into the strategic sector of Marignane, Vitrolles and the commercial area of Plan de Campagne with its ZEN 1 and ZEN 2 extensions.

  • Tramway T3 heads south from Marseille: The long-awaited expansion to La Gaye (South Hospitals) will be inaugurated on Wednesday. An investment of 350 million euros which does not constitute “a simple extension, but a major transformation of certain neighborhoods”, underlines the president of the RTM.

New “Neomma” metro: travelers on board this semester

This is the other big issue that has made night owls cringe since 2023: the modernization of the metro. Catherine Pila confirmed it on Raphaël Khayat’s microphone: the end of the tunnel is near. If the nighttime work has fallen behind schedule (evening closures during the week were due to end in 2025, they will ultimately last until 2026-2027), it is to achieve a “technical feat”: automating an existing line without interrupting daytime traffic.

The good news? In the first half of 2026, the new trains will run with passengers on Line 2. No more aging trains, make way for a metro:

  • Air-conditioned and ergonomic.

  • Secure : Real-time video surveillance and “boa” trains (open from end to end) so everyone can see each other.

The RTM is recruiting massively

To run this expanding network, the Régie des Transports Métropolitains needs hands. With nearly 5,000 employees, the group continues to recruit “constantly”.
“If vocations can be born by listening to Maritima, it is a good thing,” says Catherine Pila. Notice to candidates: all offers are available on the site unissonsnostalents.com.
