While France is being swept by the Goretti storm, it is also blowing very hard in the Pyrénées-Orientales. This Friday January 9, 2026, the company Transavia was forced to divert the flight between Paris-Orly and Perpignan because of the tramontana.
The A320 makes loops before landing in Montpellier
Expected at Perpignan-Rivesaltes airport around 4 p.m., l’Airbus A320 of Transavia made two loops in the Catalan sky. The pilot ultimately took no risks.

Due to the strong wind blowing over the Pyrénées-Orientales, the aircraft was diverted towards Montpellier airport (Hérault). Passengers should probably return to the Pyrénées-Orientales by bus during the evening.
This type of mishap happens regularly when the weather is capricious in Perpignan. This was particularly the case on December 15, during the passage of storm Emilia.
The tramontana is expected to intensify further
This afternoon, the maximum gust recorded at Llabanère is 99 km/h. The tramontana is expected to intensify further in the coming hours. In Perpignan, peaks at 110 km/h are expected in the evening.
The return flight departing from Perpignan, at 4:50 p.m., was also impacted and was unable to take off on time. We still don’t know if the 7:40 p.m. flight between the capital and Perpignan will be able to land safely.
