In Lorrainethe four departments (Moselle, Vosges, Meuse and Meurthe-et-Moselle) were placed in yellow vigilance by Météo France, this Monday. The alert has been extended for the day of Tuesday January 7, 2025.

Floods: several rivers on yellow alert

In his last newsletter published at 4 p.m., Vigicrues has placed the following rivers on yellow alert: Orne, Nieds, Meuse upstream and Sammielloise, Cheers.

A reaction of watercourses after the latest precipitation

These seasonal floods are the consequence of precipitation in recent days, according to Florian Pasiecznik, founder of Weather Lor’: “It is a reaction of watercourses following melting snow and heavy precipitation. »

For example, this weekend, the weather yo-yoed: from snow showers and ice, it changed to rain and temperatures around 10 degrees.

A phenomenon set to last

In its bulletin, Vigicrues specifies that “Given wet soils and observed and future precipitation, the numerous rivers placed or maintained on yellow alert in the northern half of the country will continue to experience moderate flooding with a propagation of floods already formed upstream towards downstream sectors and risks of localized overflows by Tuesday afternoon. »

This flood phenomenon is expected to last most of the week. Passages rainy are expected, particularly Wednesday and Thursday: “They will accentuate the floods which will still be present,” announces Mr. Pasiecznik.
