A few weeks ago, the Parisians were able to rejoice in the recovery, after months of work on the tracks, the rail link between the French capital and Milan. Good news, another option is available this summer to the French to reach Italy by the rails and to offer a Mediterranean getaway without going through the airport box: Espresso Riviera.
Italy, observes Euronewsrelaunch this night train to the outdated elegance which links Rome to Marseille (against Nice previously). And offers travelers a picturesque and romantic route through some of the most beautiful coastal landscapes in Europe.
The charm found on the night train
Nostalgic for the refinement of another time, the Espresso Riviera is reborn within the framework of an ambitious railway initiative carried by FS Treni Turistici Italiani. Every weekend, from July 4 to August 30, this vintage train will start from Rome Termini station on Friday evening, to reach Marseille at dawn on Saturday. The return will be made on the night from Saturday to Sunday. Tickets are already on sale ici.
The trip is to be a celebration of the “slow travel”: accessible berth compartments or more refined lips, catering service on board-dinner, breakfast and bar included-and breathtaking views of the Italian Riviera and the Côte d’Azur. What, we promise, make a simple rail link a real sensory experience.
The train line, slightly modified compared to the previous edition, follows one of the most sumptuous mediterranean coasts. After Rome, Espresso Riviera crosses Genoa, Savona, Alassio and Imperia, before reaching Sanremo, pearl of the Italian Riviera. The continuation of the trip can be read like a holiday carnet: Ventimille, Menton and its lemon trees on the terrace, the Fastes de Monaco, the Croisette de Cannes, the coves of Saint-Raphaël-Valscure, to Toulon and finally Marseille.
A rail renaissance in the heritage service
More than a simple journey, the Espresso Riviera is part of a broader desire to breathe new life into the Italian railway heritage, analyzes the Italian media Bee Magazine. Like the Orient-Express or the legendary trans-European transpress, this train is part of a period of time currently restarted to enhance the territories and reconnect travelers with the authenticity of landscapes and rail tourism.
“It is not only a question of connecting points on a mapexplained at a press conference Luigi Cantamessa, managing director of FS Treni Turistici Italiani. We want to offer an immersive experience, which promotes both escape and rediscovery of the territory. “
Also according to Euronews, a day alternative will also be offered from Genoa, with private salons and first class seats.
