In its 06:00 bulletin this day, Météo-France places the Department of the Rhône and the Metropolis of Lyon at the level of orange vigilance “heat wave”, from Friday August 8, 2025 at 12:00. The episode could gain in intensity et last for several days.
The effect of heat on the body can be rapid and occurs from the first temperature increases, from the first level of meteorological vigilance. During the hot weather, people already weakened (elderly, people with chronic disease, infants, children under the age of 4 and isolated people, etc.) are particularly vulnerable and risk dehydration, aggravation of their chronic disease or a heat stroke. The effects can also be offset over time, resulting in abnormal fatigue and worsening of existing pathologies.
The prefect of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, prefect of the Rhône and the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes recall, in particular for fragile people, the main advice and simple gestures to adopt to protect themselves from strong heat:
- Drink water regularly without waiting to be thirsty;
- Refresh yourself and wet your body (at least the face and the front arms) several times a day;
- Eat in sufficient quantity and do not drink alcohol;
- Avoid going out during the hottest hours and spend several hours a day in a fresh place (cinema, municipal library, supermarket, etc.);
- Avoid the hottest hours of the day for sports activities;
- Keep your accommodation fresh (close windows and shutters during the day, open them in the evening and at night if it is cooler);
- Remember to regularly give your loved ones and, as soon as necessary, dare to ask for help.
In an emergency, call the 15th immediately.
Work under a strong heat
Workers: During high heat periods, some workers can be particularly exposed to the risks linked to the hot weather. Drink a lot of water, several times a day. Be careful for your colleagues and yourself. Protect your skin from the sun, and if you feel bad, report it quickly.
Employers: assess the risks, make the necessary decisions, in particular the development of schedules in order to limit the exposure of employees to the strongest temperatures of the day and the postponement of painful stains; In the building and public works sector for example, develop the sites to ensure the health and safety of your employees.
