Savoy and Haute-Savoie placed in orange alert to thunderstorms, in addition to five other departments of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Holders up to several centimeters in diameters are expected, as well as intense and sudden rains.

Savoy and Haute-Savoie were placed in orange alert for a risk of thunderstorms, Friday June 6, Météo-France announcement in his 6 -hour bulletin. For these two departments, the alert runs until 6 am on Saturday morning. They join Ain, Rhône, Loire, Haute-Loire and Isère, already affected by this alert which applies from 4 p.m.

Thunderstorms will be set up in the late afternoon, and several successive pluvio-storm salvas will concern the region until the night. During this episode, strong hailstorms are also expected, with hailstones up to several centimeters in diameter. Météo France also provides intense rains in a very short time, likely to combine 30 to 50 mm, or even more locally. “This stormy degradation is not strictly generalized”adds the meteorological agency, specifying for Isère that it is “Especially the North which should be concerned”.

Hot and humid air has been lasting for several days from the south of Auvergne north of Rhône-Alpes, adds Météo-France. “This is still the case this Friday and in this southwest flow, the situation will become stormy again in these regions for the afternoon and the night from Friday to Saturday”. The neighboring departments of those on orange alertness, which must for some be placed in yellow vigilance in the afternoon, are also “likely to be affected by the risk of violent phenomena”warns Météo-France.
