A farm worker died of a heart attack in the night from Thursday to Friday when he came to support farmers who are blocking an access road to Lyon, at the call of the Rural Coordination (CR), according to information from Progress and of BFM Lyon. The 57-year-old agricultural worker suffered a heart attack in the middle of the night and could not be revived by the emergency services called to the scene, according to the CR and the prefecture.

The man had “come in support” of an action carried out since Monday by around fifty farmers on the M7 road south of Lyon, near the town of Oullins-Pierre-Bénite (Rhône), against Mercosur and the government’s health policy, Laurence Chanove, regional coordinator of the CR, told AFP.

Farmers have been taking turns day and night since Monday at this blocked point where diversions have been put in place by the authorities. Several blockages are currently underway in France, in particular to denounce the Mercosur treaty which has just been voted on by the European Union.
