KAI Wisata continues to strengthen its position in the tourism industry through developing heritage-based tourism. One of its superior products, the classic steam train journey on the Ambarawa Station–Tuntang Station (PP) route, is now a favorite that attracts the attention of domestic and foreign tourists.
The Ambarawa Railway Museum, which is the starting point for the trip, is increasingly visited by foreign tourists. They come to experience the sensation of riding an ancient steam locomotive that passes through the panorama of green nature and the beauty of Rawa Pening Lake.
This one hour long journey is considered successful in combining a nostalgic atmosphere with the serenity of beautiful nature.
This authentic experience has also received praise from international tourists. A British traveler expressed his admiration on his first visit to Indonesia.
“For sure, it was fantastic, really good! This is my first time in Indonesia,” ujarnya.
Similar praise came from a tourist couple from Hong Kong and Australia.
“The ride on the train was really great fun and very authentic. We’ve done similar rides in other countries, but these carriages are in much better condition,” ungkap mereka, mengapresiasi perawatan armada heritage tersebut.
Apart from enjoying the train ride, visitors can explore the history of the railway at the Ambarawa Railway Museum.
As a cultural heritage building, this museum holds a complete collection ranging from steam locomotives, diesel locomotives, to iconic trains which are a means of cultural education for the global public.
Upon arrival at Tuntang Station, tourists are greeted with the warmth of local culture. There are various traditional culinary delights such as herbal medicine and warm porridge, as well as regional dance performances.
The latest innovation offered is boat tours in the Tuntang river area. Operating from 09.00 to 16.00 WIB, this service is priced at a promo price of IDR 10,000 per person for a duration of 20 minutes.
Interestingly, passengers can also enjoy fresh river-caught fish directly on the boat.
KAI Wisata VP Corporate Secretary, Otnial Eko Pamiarso, emphasized the importance of historical value in this service.
“Traveling on the Ambarawa–Tuntang steam train brings memories, education and pride in Indonesia’s railway heritage,”* he said.
He added that the high interest from foreign tourists proves the global competitiveness of the assets managed by KAI Wisata.
In line with this, KAI Wisata Corporate Branding & Communication, Riesta Junianti, explained that this destination was designed as a complete tour package that touches the emotional side.
