A mighty tree lost the fight against the storm. He crashed into a car on the outskirts of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. A building is hit, but no casualties. Four people died, however, after the severe weather. Damaged cars illustrate this extreme climatic event, in the words of the Portuguese government.

In the city center, our reporter notes the damage in a small square. “In Lisbon, gusts of wind caused dozens of trees to collapse in the city. Officers are still removing trees on Wednesday January 28 evening to try to clear the affected areas”says Claire Verove, special correspondent in Lisbon.

Throughout the night, heavy rains and winds, sometimes up to 140 km/h, swept across the country. In Figueira da Foz, north of Lisbon, the Ferris wheel, by the sea, is on land. It was one of the attractions of the seaside town.

In Spain, it is snow that causes chaos and huge traffic jams. Near Madrid, men from the Guardia Civil, the Spanish gendarmerie, help motorists. Hundreds of truckers are immobilized. They are ordered not to drive anymore.

In Portugal, 850,000 people are without electricity. Despite the improvement in the weather, authorities are calling on the population to avoid non-essential travel.
