Poetry meets bread culture | Pangerl & Pangerl, April 2nd, 2024

From April 13th to 20th, everything in the Discovery Quarter revolves around bread

Braunau am Inn (OTS) “Bread Culture Week” in the creative discovery district, the only cross-border tourism region in Upper Austria, the Salzburg region and Bavaria. From April 13th to 20th, 2024, everything revolves around this valuable, regional food. From the bread festival at the start to bread specialties and bread dishes in many restaurants, to bread culture at many bakers, culinary events such as “Bread, Wine and Poetry” to bread cuisine at a 3-toque level.

“Baked by hand, enjoyed with heart” is the motto of the first Burghausen Bread Festival, which kicks off the Bread Culture Week in the Discovery Quarter on April 13th. You can taste hearty bread in the historic town square and you can also register for lectures and workshops. Beforehand, as a dress rehearsal so to speak, and also during the focus week, master baker and poetry slammer Michael Zagler invites you to “bread, beer and poetry” with dedicated innkeepers. A 5-course menu with bread is served and the “stage baker” recites poems and humorous texts between courses. In the Gasthaus zur Reib in Hochburg-Ach or in the Gasthaus Hofer in Neukirchen.

Of course, it is primarily the dedicated bakers who carry the topic, and not just during the Bread Culture Week. Bread sommelier Viktoria Hönegger in the Hildegardhaus in Kirchheim opens her bread oven on one day to accept dough that you bring with you. Or “The fastest baker”, Lukas Höllbacher, master baker and internationally successful motorcycle athlete, who bakes special athlete bread in the monastery bakery in Ranshofen. The 2021 European Baker Champion, Simon Sailer, is also involved, giving a tour of his bakery.

Hosts make tasty things out of it: such as bread soup and other creative dishes, combine them in the sense of “food pairing” and sometimes even bake them themselves every day. The restaurant Forthuber in Munderfing offers bread culture at a 3-toque level all week long. The end of the first “Week of Bread Culture” in the Discovery Quarter is celebrated at the “Wastlbauer Witches’ Market” in Palting with, among other things, the famous “Zeltln”.
