The capital and its region experienced an “extraordinarily” wet year, marked by heavy episodes of rain, explains the meteorological organization.

This year, Paris beats its historical rain record dating from the year 2000, by a tenth of a millimeter, indicates Wednesday, December 25, Météo France in a press release. The cumulative rainfall, still provisional, amounts to 900.9 millimeters in 2024, compared to 900.8 in 2000. Rain has even been present in the biggest events, such as the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, Friday July 26.

“It was light drizzle which made it possible to beat, on Christmas night and on the wire, the old historic record”explains Météo France, adding that the year was marked in the capital by many rainy days and a particularly rainy autumn, “the wettest since 1986”.

A year “extraordinarily” humid also in Île-de-France, particularly in Paris in the inner suburbs. According to Météo France, on December 22 and 23, the Paris region is “at record level for the period in terms of soil moisture”.
