New hotspot of the Vienna hotel scene: Imperial Riding School starts into a new era | Imperial Riding School

With the opening of the Imperial Riding School, Autograph Collection, the hotel opens a new chapter in its multifaceted history in May 2024.

Vienna (OTS) A magical place comes to life with a new design and full of creative impulses: After four years of rest and 18 months of renovation, the Imperial Riding School Hotel on Ungargasse in Vienna Landstrasse is now ready to welcome its guests. As the first hotel of the international Autograph Collection Hotels brand in Austria, the magnificent building combines tradition and zeitgeist. The newly designed hotel offers 342 guest rooms, a 450 m² wellness area with an indoor pool and a restaurant with an outdoor area in Vienna’s largest inner-city private garden. There will also be 13 event rooms available for rent – be it for conferences and meetings or for private cocktail parties and weddings.

The Imperial Riding School is rich in history and stories: The original Harrach Garden Palace, built in 1727, became a military riding school under Emperor Franz Joseph I, housed one of the city’s largest cinemas, was used as a garage for electric postal buses and has become a hotel location made a name. “The multifaceted identity of the building is reflected in our new hotel concept, which is characterized by equestrian elegance and an idyllic natural paradise”, describes General Manager Jürgen Fleischhacker. Around 45 million euros were invested in the renovation and redesign of the Imperial Riding School, which is now one of the high-quality Autograph Collection houses. The approximately 11,000 m² area was redesigned with specialized partners such as the London design office Goddard Littlefair (interior design) as well as the Viennese companies BWM Designers & Architects (architecture & structural planning) and Lindle+Bukor (landscape planning). The revitalized location has become a new workplace for around 45 people.

Ensemble of tradition and modernity
Embedded in the surrounding artists’ quarter, the hotel presents itself as “an inspiring mix of formal etiquette and rebellious charm with which we want to appeal to both international and local guests”says Armand Thelen, Director of Sales and Marketing, looking forward to the first visitors. The location between Ungargasse, Linke Bahngasse and Rennweg is attractive for tourists and business guests, as both the city of Vienna, the airport and the train station can be reached by public transport in just a few minutes. But we also want to delight the Viennese with the casual atmosphere and the idyllic garden.

In the middle of the third: Garden Restaurant from the end of May
Starting with the Imperial Riding School garden season – from the end of May – the gastronomic doors will also be opened: the heart of the culinary concept will be the charming outdoor restaurant “Elstar – The Garden”, which was named after a popular apple variety and the Kaiser The orchard planted here by Franz Joseph I is supposed to commemorate it. The culinary spectrum is complemented by the stylish bar “The Farrier”, which serves creative cocktails and bar food in the elegant former riding arena. Sweet and savory delicacies can also be purchased “to go” at the “Cameo” take-away.

Investing in sustainability
The Imperial Riding School team is very concerned about operating the hotel in the most ecologically sustainable way possible: For example, a 1,650 m² photovoltaic system on the roof will ensure that the hotel can largely cover its own electricity needs in the future. The roof was partially re-insulated, the building management system was brought up to date and sensors were installed in all rooms to counteract unnecessary energy consumption. When selecting the furniture, great emphasis was placed on certified materials and ten electric charging stations will be installed in the parking garage. “We will invest a total of almost seven million euros in the topic of sustainability”explains General Manager Jürgen Fleischhacker.
