On June 29, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region launched the operation by Transdev of the new rail offer between Marseille, Toulon and Nice.
For the first time in France, a regional train service is ensured, after competition, by an operator other than the SNCF.
Thanks to the opening to competition, travelers now benefit:
Of 16 new trains which replace 5 coral trains out of age (45),
Of an offer doubled with one train per hour all day from 5.30 am to 10 pm, or 15 round trips per day against 7 previously,
Of a punctuality commitment of the transdev operator increased to 97.5% against 94% in the old contract.
A first assessment with concrete results:
A very significantly improved trains service
The equipment of new trains has attracted travelers: Wi-Fi, catering, cycling spaces, video protection, boarding of single-storey for people with reduced mobility and robust air conditioning (particularly appreciated this summer).
A reinforced and respected offer
The objective of a train every hour is respected. In August 18, 2025, the abolition rate (operating cause) was only 0.25 %, out of more than 1,500 traffic. It is better than the objective set by the contract and it is more than 10 times better than in July 2023 (3.1%). For the user, it is generally a train removed every 3 days on average, with a possible postponement one hour later.
More regular trains
In August 18, 2025, the regularity rate (operator cause) reaches 95.29 % – a figure up each week since June 29 and higher than the rates observed in previous years.
More travelers
The Marseille-Toulon-Nice line is characterized by a strong crowd in summer months. This very busy service has continued, since June 29, to win new travelers:
+ 15% in July 2025 compared to July 2024.
From June 29 to August 13, 735,000 travelers identified by Transdev
The doubling of the offer (30 ter per day during the week/33 on Saturday) and the mobilization of 16 trains made it possible to better treat the summer frequentation peaks.
The region remains attentive to the needs of the 1 million travelers who borrow TERs every week, and requires impeccable service. Any breach will be punished and the penalties provided for in the contract will be strictly applied. The region thus recalled, during the summer, all operators to their obligations and will convene them in early September at the Hôtel de Région for a “quality of service” hearing.
