Israel will cover droughts and floods – what scientists predict

By the end of the 21st century, Israel is predicted an extreme increase in temperature, increased droughts and sharp floods.

This reads a fresh report of the meteorological service at the Ministry of Transport.

According to experts, in conditions of global warming, already by 2100 in the country, temperatures above 50 ° C can be recorded, and in certain areas – significantly higher indicators. So, in the hula valley by 2070, heat is expected to up to 57 ° C. These values significantly exceed the maximum previously registered.

In addition, experts warn of reducing the total amount of precipitation while increasing short -term and intense rains, which increases the risk of sudden floods.

Why Israel heats up faster

The country is located in the dry climate zone and is located on the border of desert and Mediterranean climatic regions. This enhances temperature fluctuations and provokes extreme weather phenomena. Hot desert winds and wet masses from the sea create unstable weather conditions, which, in conditions of global warming, become more and more pronounced.

Health and economy consequences

A sharp increase in temperatures poses a threat to human health, especially the elderly and children. Faced cases of thermal blows and exacerbations of cardiovascular diseases are possible. Agriculture will be under a blow due to alternating droughts and powerful rains that can damage the crop.

Already noticeable changes

According to studies, over the past 30 years, the maximum daily temperature in Israel has increased by about 2 ° C. In the period 2012–2020, about eight heat waves took place annually in the country, which took 363 people, most of whom were older than 70 years.

2024 became the second hottest in the history of meteorological observations. In the winter of 2024–2025, less than 40 % of the usual level of precipitation fell, and the water level in Lake Kineret decreased by almost two meters.

What is being done

The published report formed the basis of plans to adapt to new conditions. Municipalities and relevant ministries are developing measures in the fields of healthcare, water supply, agriculture, energy and infrastructure.

Climate change becomes a factor that already affects life in Israel and requires urgent actions.

Earlier, the “cursor” reported which country was the first to go under water due to climate change.
