An investigation was opened on Tuesday October 22 for “public incitement to hatred”, after an individual wearing an “Anti-Jewish” flocked jersey was photographed on Monday in the Paris metro, franceinfo learned from the Paris prosecutor’s office. This investigation was opened after a report from the railway network brigade (BRF) to the Paris prosecutor’s office.

The photograph of this man, from behind, was broadcast on Tuesday on social networks by Sandrine Sebbane, editorial director of RCJ radio. According to her, the man was on Monday afternoon, around 5:30 p.m., on board line 13 of the metro, at the Saint-François-Xavier station.

“The RATP condemns racism and anti-Semitism in the strongest possible terms and makes itself available to law enforcement to help identify and arrest any person responsible for this type of act.“, wrote Tuesday on X the RATP, adding that“a complaint will be filed”.

“I was alerted today about a photo of an individual wearing a jersey printed with a sinister ‘Anti-Jew’ in a metro train”, reacts, also on X, the president of the Île-de-France region Valérie Pécresse. “We are currently carrying out checks and identification of this individual with the RATP teams and are leading to the necessary criminal proceedings. Anti-Semitism has no place in our country.”she finishes.

“As soon as I was informed of these anti-Semitic facts, I immediately instructed my services to refer the matter to the Paris prosecutor’s office”, written on X by the Paris police prefect, Laurent Nuñez. “The regional transport security at the police headquarters is responsible for investigations in order to identify and arrest the perpetrator. Zero tolerance for hate propagators.”
