in Cassis, tourists and locals surprised by the abnormal heat

The weather is exceptional for October in Bouches-du-Rhône. In Cassis, it was 27°C on Tuesday October 15 and tourists even went swimming. A stormy episode is expected from Thursday.

Hats and even sunglasses were back in Cassis (Bouches-du-Rhône), where the thermometer reached 27°C on Tuesday October 15. Surprised by unseasonably mild temperatures, some people changed their day’s plans.

This is particularly the case for François, who takes advantage of this abnormal heat to read in the sun. “Ten years ago, going outside to read towards the end of October was perhaps a little more complicated. Now, until the end of November, we can read outside”, testifies this local resident to BFM Marseille Provence .

“The sea must be at 23°C”

The locals were out, but also a lot of tourists. On the beach, some even indulged in a little swim.

“The water is very good, not too cold. The sea must be at 23°C which is very good. As the sun is there, it is very good”, rejoices Maco, a German tourist.

Temperatures were abnormally high across the Bouches-du-Rhône department this Tuesday, but the bad weather must be making a comeback. A storm will hit the south of France between Wednesday October 16 and Thursday October 17, causing locally very significant amounts of rain.

“We have a very powerful stormy spell ahead on Thursday evening. Risks of urban runoff Thursday evening in Marseille. We will have to be very vigilant,” says Paul Marquis, independent weather expert.

The Bouches-du-Rhône department is currently placed on yellow rain-flood vigilance from 10 p.m. this Tuesday and on yellow storm vigilance from midnight to 6 a.m. Wednesday.
