The Parisian device continues to evolve to fluidify traffic, reduce pollution and noise pollution. After limiting 50km/h, the carpooling route is set up, Monday, March 3. This is a reserved traffic lane, in particular, to vehicles which transport at least two passengers. To control the use of this carpooling route, very specific radars are experienced.
Thanks to artificial intelligence, these radars are able to detect the number of occupants in a moving vehicle. This ispatented technology which works with two radars placed next to each other which will record images in a synchronized manner from two angles of view.
One to locate the number of passengers as well as their position in the vehicle, the other to flash the license plate. Note that faces are automatically blurred to comply with the GDPR, the General Regulations on the Protection of Personal Data.
AI is used to operate these radars. It allows you to adapt when a car is flashed, depending on its speed and weather: if it rains or if it snows. Then, the AI allows you to adapt to the specificity of the flashed vehicle.
According to the manufacturer, radars are able to see the passengers even if there is sun which is reflected on the windows or if the windows are tinted at the back. The AI finally makes it possible to make the difference between a model and a human but also between an adult and a child or an infant.
For the moment, a first phase of pedagogy is set up. Those who place themselves on these carpooling routes in peak hour alone in their vehicle will see a message displayed on panels to ask them to change lanes. But from May 1, the first tickets in the amount of 135 euros will fall.
It is the municipal police who will be responsible for analyzing each cliché upstream and estimating whether there is an offense or not. The Paris town hall finally indicates that this organized experimentation “Without end date” Will be the subject of a weekly publication of follow -up indicators: congestion, noise, pollution, carpooling, etc.
