Diving activities in Indonesia are considered as one of the safest tourist activities. This was confirmed by Project Manager of Dive Expo Indonesia (DXI) 2026, Irfant Rifani, in a press conference launching DXI 2026 in South Jakarta, Tuesday (9/23).

“Compared to other activities, diving is among the most safe. The reason, we are supported by a very good training system, “said Irfant.

According to him, international training institutions such as rice, ssi, and raid have ensured that every diver received adequate briefing with the global world recreational scuba training council (WRSTC) standards. He added, the presence of licensed instructors and government regulations since 2020 made diving safety standards in Indonesia even stronger.

“Starting from Bali, Raja Ampat, Weh Island to the Thousand Islands, all operators must obey SOPs and international standards. Both beginners and experienced, are in the same system,” explained Irfant.

Even so, he acknowledged that supervision in the field still needs to be strengthened, considering that thousands of diving points throughout the archipelago have different consistency rates.

The President Director of the Asia Dive Expo (ADEX), John Thet, assesses that national regulations need to be supported by more organized industrial governance. He cited Singapore, where the diving association compiled a code of ethics and safety rules that must be obeyed by all operators.

“Safety must be promoted through clear rules and education, not just a matter of insurance. Without that, consistency in the field is difficult to maintain,” said John.

Both emphasize that diving safety is a shared responsibility, not only operators, but also divers. Education to tourists is considered crucial, because many beginners are more focused on tourist experience than basic safety procedures.

Indonesia is known to have thousands of diving points with unmatched marine biodiversity. This great potential is a magnet for foreign tourists, but also holds risks if the safety aspect is ignored.

The DXI 2026 Forum is expected not to be a diving equipment exhibition, but also a serious discussion for safety, education and protection of marine ecosystems. (Z-10)
