The weather scene changes from tonight, Monday September 9 with severe weather “ATENA” bringing heavy rain and storms, hail and lightning.
According to the updated emergency worsening weather bulletin issued by the EMY, the barometric low formed in the Western Mediterranean is causing the bad weather “ATENA” in the Central Mediterranean and is moving eastward.
This system is predicted to cause a worsening of the weather in our country from the evening (09-24-09-24) until the evening hours of Wednesday (11-09-24) with locally heavy rains and storms mainly in the western, central and northern continents as well as the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean.

“Bad weather in waves
Organized barometric low from the area of Italy accompanied by bad weather fronts is expected to concern our country as it moves slowly east northeast (Video with map of Europe).
The evolution of the first wave
The first of the waves that we expect will affect the Ionian Sea and the western continental areas in the evening today and until tomorrow morning, with the forecasts calling for a large volume of water locally, so the risk of flooding increases (map 1).
The second phase of this first wave is expected around midday tomorrow where the effects will shift to the central and north (map 2).
The third and last phase of this first wave is expected from tomorrow evening and until Wednesday afternoon where the eastern Aegean and the northeastern parts of our country will be affected.
The second wave is calculated within Thursday and from west to east which will be analyzed in due course.

It is recalled that earlier on Monday, the EMY updated the emergency worsening weather report, speaking of heavy rains and storms starting this evening (09.09.2024) in the Ionian Islands, Epirus, western Sterea and western Peloponnese.
The barometric low created in the Western Mediterranean will cause the bad weather “ATENA” in the Central Mediterranean and moves eastward.
The phenomena will be accompanied by a high frequency of lightning, hail and strong gusty winds.

From the evening of Monday (09-09-24) until the afternoon hours of Tuesday (10-09-24) in the Ionian Islands, Epirus, western Sterea and western Peloponnese.
From the midday hours of Tuesday (10-9-2024) until late afternoon in western Macedonia, Thessaly and eastern Sterea.
From the early afternoon of Tuesday (10-09-24) until the afternoon hours of Wednesday (11-09-24) in central and eastern Macedonia and the Sporades.
From morning to afternoon on Wednesday (11-09-24) in Thrace and the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean.
