Proven cooperation with the state of Lower Austria and Donau Niederösterreich Tourism enables flexible solutions for residents and tourists.
Schönbühel-Aggsbach (OTS/LCG) – The effects of the rockfall on June 3, 2024, in which around 13,000 cubic meters of rock fell between the towns of Aggsbach-Dorf and Aggstein onto the B33 and the Danube Cycle Path, pose major challenges for the region. Among others, restaurants, fruit growers and local companies are suffering due to the loss of cyclists.
Now Austria’s largest and most traditional inland shipping company is stepping in and reconnecting the popular tourist destinations to traffic. After a brief consultation with the Danube Lower Austria Tourism Director Bernhard Schröder the DDSG Blue Danube managing directors Wolfgang Fischer and Wolfgang Hanreich A spontaneous solution has now been found to bring cycling and leisure tourism back to the towns.
From today, Friday, and until the end of October 2024, the MS Austria of the DDSG Blue Danube will dock in Aggsbach-Dorf every day upstream and downstream at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to bring hikers and cyclists to the idyllic Danube region and support tourism. The need is announced by raising the yellow signal flag. The prerequisite for docking is a sufficiently high water level (250 in Kienstock). The Danube stations allow free docking, which means short-distance tickets to Melk, Spitz or Krems are available from just 21 euros and can be booked on ddsg-blue-danube.at.
“The DDSG Blue Danube is firmly anchored in the region and is a reliable partner. We are happy that we have now found an additional opportunity for cyclists to explore the region. Ultimately, it is about pulling together and supporting tourism businesses.”
means Bernhard SchröderManaging Director of Destination Danube.
“Strong partnerships are the foundation for making a difference together, even in exceptional situations in the region, and being there where we are needed. The access to the on-demand stop enables cycle tourism in the high season and thus climate- and environmentally-friendly mobility.”
says DDSG Blue Danube Managing Director Wolfgang Fischer.
“Flexibility and professionalism are core values in shipping. Adapting schedules and routes within a few days is only possible with an excellent crew and active partnerships in the region and in tourism. The DDSG Blue Danube is now heading for Aggsbach-Dorf and bringing tourism and business back.”
explains DDSG Blue Danube Managing Director Wolfgang Hanreich.
The DDSG Blue Danube is owned 50 percent each by Wien Holding and VERKEHRSBUEROS and is a state-certified training company and a top Viennese training company as well as a brand recognized by Superbrands Austria. More information at ddsg-blue-danube.at
