A plane tree around ten meters high collapsed this Thursday March 26, Cours Julien in the city center of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) due to a significant windy episode, BFM Marseille Provence learned.

Wind gusts of up to 131 km/h were also measured at Bec de l’Aigle in La Ciotat.

An injured person was also treated by firefighters.

Parks, gardens and museums closed

Earlier today this Wednesday, the city of Marseille announced the exceptional closure of “all of the city’s parks and gardens”.

The Borély museum, the Fine Arts museum and the natural history museum are also closed today. The Bouches-du-Rhône department is placed on yellow “wind” alert this Thursday and Friday.
