Weather | A heated home for the elderly in Třinec! After extreme downpours in the Beskydy there is a risk of flooding, watch Blesk’s radar

Persistent rain is causing problems in Třinec in Frýdecko-Místek, the water has heated up a home for the elderly. Some houses are also flooded. Municipality spokesman Stanislav Cieslar told ČTK. It’s still raining in the city. In the morning, the levels of some rivers in the Moravian-Silesian Region reached the first or second level of flood activity.

“This morning, heavy water melted the support of the temporary footbridge over Olši in Vendryn, in the direction of Karpentná and Oldřichovice. The footbridge, which serves as a temporary bridge during the reconstruction of the bridge, collapsed into the river as a result,” said Cieslar.

The water heated the home for the elderly with 27 residential units, in which, according to the spokesman, there are 51 clients. Workers are renovating the home and the water got there through the repaired roof. “The water flowed through the roof into the apartments. The seniors were able to be moved to less affected areas of the home at night and their evacuation was not necessary.” Cieslar said. He added that the city is now dealing with the transfer of clients to alternative premises. He assumes that some of them will be taken care of by families, others will need to be temporarily accommodated in spare rooms, as the building will need rehabilitation.

The rain also caused problems in the vicinity of the Napoleon restaurant, where water reached several houses. The most affected was a family home, in which the water reached below the windows.

The threat continues

After heavy rains, river levels remained elevated this morning in the south-west of the republic and in part of central Bohemia, and flows in northern Moravia and Silesia began to rise at night. “Rainfall in the affected area is already weakening, but water levels may still rise slightly,” meteorologists said. A rain warning for part of the Zlín and Moravian-Silesian regions is valid today, a flood warning for Prague and part of the Central Bohemian and Pilsen regions is valid until Wednesday noon.

The rain causes problems in Frýdecko-Místek. From Monday evening until this morning, the firemen went to almost a hundred interventions. Othey pumped water out of flooded cellars, cleaned clogged canal drains. Firefighters’ spokesman Lukáš Popp told journalists.

Firefighters in Frýdecko-Místek had the most calls, accounting for 94 out of 99 interventions. The worst was the situation in the Třinec region. “It was mostly about flooded basements and clogged channel drainssti. In Čeladná and Třinec, firefighters had to divert the flowing water in several places using sandbags,” said Popp. Dhe said that firefighters also went to Novojičínsk for two incidents and for the other three in Karvinsk.

Rain flooded basements of houses and roads in Valašské Klobouky in the Zlín region on Monday in the early evening and evening. Firefighters recorded 20 hits there, and there were no injuries, regional firefighter spokeswoman Lucie Javoříková told ČTK this morning.

Jan Kosnar (35) was rescued from the flooded Losinské stream by a helicopter. Fortunately, nothing happened to him, on Monday he was already cleaning up the consequences of the flood in his house.

“From the evening, 60 to 140 millimeters of rain fell in the Beskydy Mountains and the surrounding area. It continues to rain in the affected area, but the rainfall is already decreasing. In heavy rain, you need to reduce your car speed and drive very carefully. Do not enter or enter flowing water and flooded areas. Limit movement in waterlogged areas where there is a risk of trees falling or roads being washed away,” meteorologists said.

The situation is improving in the Pilsen Region

Radbuza in Staňkov in the Pilsen Region, which was at the highest level of third since Sunday, at night it dropped to the second flood stage. The river Ropičanka in Třinek reached the third level of flood activity at the Řeka measuring station, according to information from hydrologists on the website of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ).

The second stage was valid this morning on the Radbuza next to Staňkov, also in the Pilsen part of the Lhota and on the outflow from the České údolí reservoir, there was also an emergency at Berun in Pilsen on Bílá Hora. The level of the Úhlava in Štěnovice fell to the first level of flood activity.

In the Central Bohemia region, Berounka in Zbečné is on the second level and in Beroun on the first level. The Vltava in Prague’s Chuchli remains at its lowest flood stage. Due to the higher level of the river, the capital closed the floodgates on Čertovce and part of the floodplains as a precaution on Monday. Ferry operations were also interrupted.
