Weather | Up to 12 cm of snow will fall in the Czech Republic: Then the temperatures will jump to 16 °C! Keep an eye on Lightning’s radar

In the south of Bohemia and parts of South Moravia, up to 12 centimeters of snow can fall from this evening until Friday morning. Meteorologists warn of complications in traffic, and advise drivers to follow traffic reports. Warning of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) against new snow cover valid from today 18:00 until Friday 06:00 for several regions in the South Bohemian and South Moravian regions.

According to meteorologists, a pressure low is deepening over northern Italy, which will bring heavy snowfall not only to the Alps, but also to the southern neighbors of the Czech Republic. They pointed out that the weather in the Czech Republic will have a marginal effect, mainly in the evening and on Friday night, when it will intensify the snowfall.

But there will be a big turn at the weekend. “Afternoon temperatures can rise to 13°C thanks to a warm south-westerly flow and overnight lows will not drop below freezing,” meteorologist Dagmar Honsová told Lightning. From Wednesday, the sky will clear and the warm air will be accompanied by sunshine, in Prague and Central Bohemia we will even measure up to 16 °C in the afternoon!

No jump to summer

This year, compared to last year, we do not expect a big jump from winter to summer. “According to the outlook of the NCEP center, March and April will have a slight positive temperature deviation from the long-term normal. This is 3.2 °C in March and 8.5 °C in April,” said Hons. Frost may return in early March.

Nature is already blooming

The first messengers from the plant kingdom timidly announce the arrival of spring in gardens, parks and forests on the frozen, sometimes still snow-covered ground. In Pardubice, for example, the first snowdrops have appeared and here and there the yellow flowers of the snowdrops shine from the grass like little suns. The cycads and crocuses are also slowly coming to life.

The sleepers are back

Starlings have already returned from warm countries. The arrival of this chattering bird has been monitored by Rudolf Kovařík at his weather station in Šindelova in Sokolovsk since 1975. “They arrive between February 9th and March 10th. This year they arrived on February 14th,” described Kovařík.
