During New Year’s Eve and night and the first day of the new year, it will continue to snow in the Czech Republic. Up to 15 centimeters of snow will fall on the mountains in the north. It is expected to snow heavily until the morning, among others, in the Trutnovsko and Rychnovsko regions. In addition, meteorologists expect strong winds, warn of the formation of snow tongues, and blizzards on the mountains.

Road workers have all the equipment in the field. Still, they urge caution. Apart from the main route to Poland, the third-class road from Mníšek via Oldřichov in Hájy to Raspenava and Hejnice to Liberecko remains closed to trucks, buses and cars will pass through it.

On the recommendation of the police, one side road in Litoměřick is also closed. Drivers have to take into account snow on the road, for example when driving along the main road through Červenohorské sedlo or through Ostružná, caution is in order there.

Heavy snowfall caused delays in about a dozen bus lines in the Central Bohemia region in the afternoon, some stops were temporarily canceledbuses temporarily did not reach some places at all.

Three injured pedestrians in Jihlava

Wednesday through Thursday morning, according to meteorologists up to 10 cm of snow will fall in the north-west, north and north-east of Bohemia, in the Karlovy Vary Region and in the north-west windward of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, and around 15 cm of snow in the mountains. Most of them attack on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

During Wednesday afternoon, the wind will increase. “The combination of dusty snow and stronger winds will first lead to the formation of snow tongues in Bohemia, on Thursday morning gradually also in the northeast and east of the territory, especially from higher elevations, and later in the mountains, blizzards.” meteorologists warn.

The wind will decrease on Friday evening. “In the period from Thursday morning to Friday afternoon, the intensifying southwesterly wind will reach gusts between 15 and 20 m/s (55 and 70 km/h), especially in the southwestern half of Bohemia and in the northeastern part of the country,” the ČHMÚ warns.
