“The end of this year and the beginning of next will be characterized by high cloud cover, temperatures in the lowest locations during the day at most slightly above zero degrees Celsius and more frequent snowfall, especially in the mountains,” stated the CHMÚ. Snow or snow showers will be much more common in the mountains than before from Monday or Tuesday, mainly in the northern border mountains. However, it is still too early to accurately estimate the amount of snow, it will be clearer towards the end of the week, noted the meteorologists.
“From Tuesday, the weather in the mountains will be distinctly wintry with all-day frost, and it will also be more windy in the days around New Year’s Eve. We can therefore also expect typical winter phenomena such as tongues of snow or even snowdrifts,” wrote the CHMÚ. According to meteorologists, people who go to the mountains around New Year’s Eve should be prepared for really winter conditions.
The first week of 2026 is very likely to be in a similar vein, stated the CHMÚ. Very cold and probably moist air will continue to flow into the Czech Republic from the north or northwest. On some days, all-day frosts are not excluded in all locations, it will snow quite often. Meteorologists do not expect a significant change in the weather even in the outlook until January 10, but according to them, that is still very far away.
