Being at the airport for too long is usually boring. But not for those who are at Singapore Changi Airport, which has just been named the world’s best airport for the 13th time by the air transport rating organization, Skytrax.
Changi is not just an airport, but a separate tourist destination, with a check-in service earlier that allows passengers to leave luggage for up to 48 hours before the flight, so they can enjoy time at the airport as part of the holiday.
Most visitors will go straight to Jewel, a 10-storey giant mall visited by 80 million people in 2024. There are also various indoor parks (including butterfly parks) and Rain Vortex, the highest indoor waterfall in the world as high as 40 meters (around 130 feet). There are also spa, hotels, art exhibitions, museums, cinemas, even dinosaur -themed parks.
Skytrax also recognizes Changi as a culinary paradise, with the world’s best culinary awards, as well as the best toilets at the World Airport and the Best Airport in Asia, in the World Airport Awards held in Madrid on April 9.
According to CNN Business, Changi is investing more than US $ 2 billion in the next six years to improve services and facilities. The Terminal 5 construction project is also ongoing and is scheduled to open in the 2030s, completing the four existing terminals.
Asia leads
The second best airport in the world version of Skytrax is Hamad International Airport in Qatar, which is full of charming arts and architecture. The airport also won the award for the best shopping at the World Airport and the best airport in the Middle East.
Asian airports controlled third to sixth positions, showing that the region was far ahead of North America and Europe in terms of the quality of air transportation.
- Tokyo Haneda (also named the cleanest airport in the world) is in 3rd position.
- Incheon International in Seoul (winning the world’s best airport staff) in the 4th position.
- Narita International (who also serves Tokyo) in the 5th position.
- Hong Kong International Airport in the 6th position.
Other airports in the world
Nine European airports are included in the top 20.
- Paris Charles de Gaulle in 7th position and returned to be the best airport in Europe for three years in a row.
- Rome Fiumicino in the 8th position, this year is getting busy because of the celebration of the Catholic Church’s jubelium.
- Munich, Zurich, and Helsinki-Vantaa each in positions 9, 10, and 12.
- Istanbul Airport, which is on the European side of the city, occupies the 14th position and has been named the world’s most friendly airport in the world.
Vienna (15), Copenhagen (18), and Amsterdam Schiphol (19) were also on the list, but London Heathrow – the busiest airport in Europe – did not win any awards.
The only airport from the American continent on the list is Vancouver International in the 13th position. While Cape Town Airport does not enter the top 20, but has been named the best airport in Africa and has the best staff services in Africa.
