Initially, due to the intense weather phenomena, it was recommended by the Risk Assessment Committee in areas that will be “hit” by the bad weather that there should be a traffic ban for heavy vehicles, mandatory anti-skid chains in Region networks and school closures.

1. Traffic ban for heavy vehicles from yesterday Sunday at 18:00 until today at 14:00

a) On Egnatia Odos, from the Drosohori toll road to the Polymylos toll road

b) From the Kalambaka junction of E65 on the provincial network to Panagia E06 and from Grevena E015 to the junctions of Egnatia.

2. Anti-skid chains are mandatory throughout the network of the Regions of Epirus, Western Macedonia, Central Macedonia, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and Western Thessaly.

3. Schools are closed today Monday in Western Macedonia

4. The mayors will decide on closing schools on a case-by-case basis, where necessary, in Eastern and Central Macedonia.

MACEDONIA, THRACE

Weather: Increased clouds with rain or sleet. Heavy snowfall in places will occur in all mountainous and semi-mountainous areas and in areas with a lower altitude, while it is also possible to snow in lowland areas.

Winds: In the east east-northeast 4 to 6 and in the sea coasts 7 to 8 Beaufort. In the rest of the areas north northwest 3 to 5 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 0 (zero) to 4 degrees Celsius. In western Macedonia 3 to 4 degrees lower.

IONIAN ISLANDS, EPIROS, WEST STEREA, WEST PELOPONNISOS

Weather: Cloudy with rain and local storms. The phenomena mainly in the southern Ionian and the western Peloponnese will be locally strong. Snow will fall in the highlands and semi-mountains of Epirus.

Winds: East-southeast 6 to 7 and locally in the northern Ionian 8 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 7 to 15 degrees Celsius. In the interior of Epirus 5 to 7 degrees lower.

EASTERN STEREA, EVIA, EASTERN PELOPONNISOS

Weather: Cloudy with locally heavy rains and storms. Snow will fall in the mountainous and central Sterea and semi-mountainous areas.

Winds: North-northeast, in the north 6 to 7 Beaufort, in the rest 4 to 6 and from the evening locally 7 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 6 to 14 degrees Celsius, in the northernmost areas from 2 to 10 degrees.

CYCLADES, CRETE

Weather: Clouds temporarily increasing with local showers and isolated thunderstorms in western parts.

Winds: South-southwest 4 to 6 Beaufort, gradually to the west north with the same intensity.

Temperature: From 14 to 19 degrees Celsius.

EAST AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANISE

Weather: Clouds with local rains and on the islands of the eastern Aegean sporadic storms, strong in places.

Winds: In the north east-northeast 7 to 9 Beaufort. In the south south 4 to 6 Beaufort.

Temperature: In the south from 14 to 19 degrees Celsius. In the north from 9 to 15 degrees.

THESSALY

Weather: Cloudy with locally heavy rain in the east. Heavy snowfall will occur locally in mountainous – semi-mountainous areas and temporarily in areas with a lower altitude.

Winds: Northeast 4 to 6 and in the Sporades 7 to 8 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 3 to 8 and in the Sporades from 8 to 13 degrees Celsius.

ATTICA

Weather: Cloudy with rain and mainly in the morning sporadic storms possibly temporarily strong. Local snowfall will occur overnight in the northern highlands.

Winds: North-northeast 4 to 6 and gradually to the east local 7 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 6 to 13 degrees Celsius.

THESSALONIKI

Weather: Cloudy with rain or sleet. Heavy snowfall in places will occur in all mountainous and semi-mountainous areas and in areas with a lower altitude, while it is also possible to snow in lowland areas.

Winds: North-northwest 3 to 5 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 1 to 5 degrees Celsius.

What will the weather be like on Tuesday (14/1)

Increased clouds with rain are forecast throughout the country, locally strong in the central and southern areas, while storms will occur mainly in the maritime areas. The effects in the north from noon will weaken. Snowfall will occur in the highlands and semi-mountains of the mainland, which in the north will gradually weaken and in the evening will be limited mainly to the highlands and semi-mountains of the central and southern mainland.

Winds will blow in the west east-southeast 4 to 6 and in the Ionian east-southeast 7 to 8 Beaufort with gradual weakening from the noon hours. In the Ionian Sea, in the western Peloponnese, in Crete (mainly in the west), in the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean and in the Dodecanese, local rains with sporadic storms are expected, with gradual weakening in the east from the afternoon. In the rest of the country, clouds are forecast with a few local rains in the eastern mainland, in Evia and possibly in the Sporades.

Snowfalls will occur in the southern continental highlands in the morning hours with a rapid weakening, while light snowfalls are predicted in the rest of the continental highlands as well as in the northern semi-mountains.

The winds will blow in the west east-southeast 3 to 5, in the Ionian region 6 Beaufort and in the evening in the southern Ionian region 7 Beaufort. In the east, winds will blow from northerly directions 4 to 6 and in the northern Aegean temporarily local 7 Beaufort, with gradual weakening.

The temperature will rise slightly in the center and in the north. Frost is expected in places in the north and central areas in the morning and evening hours.

In the Ionian Sea, in the western Peloponnese and in Crete (mainly in the west), clouds with local rains and sporadic storms are forecast, with gradual weakening from midday. In the rest of the country, clouds are expected with a few local rains in the eastern mainland and in Evia.

The winds will blow in the west east-southeast 4 to 6, temporarily in the marine local 7 Beaufort. In the east they will blow from north directions 4 to 5 and in the seas up to 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise slightly mainly in the north and central areas. Frost is expected in places in the north in the morning and evening hours.

Generally clear weather is expected with a few clouds temporarily increasing in the central and southern areas.

Winds will blow in the west east-southeast 3 to 5 Beaufort, while gradually from noon and from the north they will turn to north-northeast up to 6 Beaufort in the seas. In the east, winds will blow from north directions 4 to 6 and in the Aegean locally 7 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise slightly. Frost is expected in places in the north in the morning and evening hours.
